If you live in Dunedin and are looking for an Orthodox church, St. Michael Ukrainian Orthodox Church is about 16 miles south of you by road, in Pinellas Park, and the trip down is straightforward.
Dunedin itself does not have an Orthodox parish. The nearest Orthodox parishes for Dunedin residents are in Clearwater, among them Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church (about six miles southeast of Dunedin) and St. Catherine Russian Orthodox Mission, and in Palm Harbor and Tarpon Springs to the north. If the Greek tradition speaks to you, Holy Trinity and the Greek parishes to the north are closer. If you want Ukrainian Orthodox tradition specifically, or a bilingual English-Ukrainian liturgical home, drive a little farther to St. Michael. The parish you join will be your spiritual home for years. The right fit matters more than the closer parking lot.
Sacraments for Dunedin Families
Dunedin families are welcome to come to St. Michael for baptism, Orthodox weddings, and memorial services. All sacraments can be celebrated in English, Ukrainian, or bilingually based on your family’s preference.
For weddings, contact Fr. Stephen at least six months in advance. The Orthodox wedding rite includes the betrothal, the crowning, the common cup, and the procession. It is a moving ceremony that families remember for the rest of their lives.
For baptisms, we recommend reaching out as soon as you decide to baptize your child. The conversation with Fr. Stephen typically covers godparent selection, the date, what to bring, and any catechetical preparation. There is no fee for the sacrament. Donations to the parish are welcome.
